In support of our mission to enhance the quality of life for residents of the Chilkat Valley, the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation, an affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation, is pleased to announce fourteen grants, totaling $15,550, to local nonprofits.
CVCF uses proceeds from its growing “community permanent fund” to award yearly grants to worthwhile programs in the Chilkat Valley. These grants are intended to support organizations and programs in our community that serve the needs of people in such areas as health, education, human services, arts and culture, youth, environment, and community development.
This year, thanks to the support of our generous donors, CVCF grants were awarded to a diverse group of organizations in support of projects that will make a difference in the lives of community residents and visitors.
Funding for these projects came from revenues available from the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation endowed fund $13,567; CVCF Memorial Fund $986; The Call Family Fund $397; and Rasmuson Foundation’s regrant funds of $500. In addition, Kingfisher Consulting, LLC sponsored a $600 Mini-Tech Grant which was available to projects that incorporated technology. The Mini-Tech Grant funds were awarded to Lynn Canal Broadcasting for its News Expansion project.
The Chilkat Valley Community Foundation’s Grantmaking Committee was comprised of Board members Crystal Badgley, Kristin Hathhorn, Anna Jurgeleit, Connie Staska, Carolyn Ganner, Heather Shade, Chip Lende, Mary Jane Valentine, Lew Lowery, Leslie Evenden, and Ann Myren. Three community members, Judy Ewald, Tomi Scovill, and Tom Morphet also served on the committee. Committee members used CVCF’s structured review process and read, scored, discussed, and prioritized the applications.
